About Marine Radar Simulator

Marine Radar Simulator is a high-fidelity, browser-based marine radar training platform designed to help mariners master radar navigation, collision avoidance, and radar plotting through interactive, physics-based instruction. The simulator reproduces a professional radar scope with realistic features including gain and sea/rain clutter controls, true and relative motion modes, EBL/VRM measurement tools, target vectors and trails, CPA/TCPA calculations, and COLREGS Rule 19 decision practice. It runs entirely in any modern web browser — Mac, PC, or Chromebook — with no software installation required.

The platform is built for a wide range of users: sailing students preparing for their ASA 120 Radar Endorsement, maritime cadets and academy trainees working through STCW requirements, recreational boaters who want to be safer navigators, and professional mariners maintaining their radar proficiency. A structured eight-module curriculum guides learners from radar fundamentals through advanced collision-avoidance scenarios, with graded quizzes, a personal gradebook, and Google Classroom integration for instructor-led courses.

Marine Radar Simulator is developed by Captain Andy Deen, a USCG-licensed Master Captain (100-Ton with Sailing Endorsement) and two-time Instructor of the Year based in St. Petersburg, Florida. Captain Andy founded Time and Tide Captain Services in 2021 to provide hands-on sailing instruction, captained charters, and yacht deliveries, and built this simulator to bring his on-the-water curriculum online so students everywhere can practice radar skills at their own pace.
